KENNEL CLUB ACCREDITED BREEDERS

We are proud to be founder members of the Kennel Club Accredited Breeder Scheme.

The aim of the Kennel Club Accredited Breeder Scheme is to provide a framework to encourage the breeding of healthy, well adjusted puppies. It lays down a series of requirements that breeders must follow in order to participate in the scheme.

We are situated just outside of Grantham and we welcome visitors anytime to come and meet us and our dogs.

We are very proud of our dogs and take great care when planning and breeding a litter of pups.

We always hip score our own dogs. There are other important factors to be taken into account when deciding to breed from a Bitch or selecting a Stud Dog. These include: TEMPERAMENT, CONFORMATION, CORRECT DENTITION, AGE, NUMBER OF PAST LITTERS, COMPATIBLE LINEAGE.

A good hip score does not make a good Vizsla.

Obviously a low hip score is desirable but what if the score on a Stud Dog is 13 but is made up of 0 on one hip and 13 on the other. The hips should ideally be balanced each hip having a similar score. So a dog with a score of say 8 / 8 making the total score 16 actually has both hips which are far better than one of the hips of the dog with a 13 score on one hip and a 0 score on the other.

The BVA/KC Hip Scoring Scheme does not lay down any hard and fast rules with regards to how high a hip score has to be before a dog or bitch is considered unsuitable for breeding. It is a matter of judgement.

Remember having a lower than average hip score does NOT alone make a dog a good candidate for breeding there are many other factors to bear in mind.
